The 79th UN General Assembly (UNGA79) is proud to announce the Science Summit Youth Parliament, a unique opportunity for young individuals aged 13-22 from around the globe to engage in critical discussions about AI regulation (mainly but not exclusively) and its broader impact on scientific collaboration and societal dynamics.

Discussions will also include the contributions of science to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They provide crucial insights into how we can effectively address global challenges by leveraging scientific advancements.

This Youth Parliament serves as a platform to amplify the voices of young people regarding the pivotal role of science in offering evidence-based solutions and innovations for sustainable development across diverse sectors. It encompasses discussions on AI and data regulation, emphasizing critical aspects such as ethics, privacy, accountability, and the societal implications of emerging technologies.

Encouraging youth involvement in global challenges

Acknowledging the often limited involvement of youth in these significant dialogues, the Summit aims to empower the next generation to articulate their perspectives and aspirations.

We highly encourage young individuals with practical experience in various fields of science and technology, particularly those actively involved in academic research, to apply. Eligible participants must be available to attend the event in New York City on September 14, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST (Date subject to change).

Selected participants will be expected to present a well-prepared speech on one of the following topics: engineering and technology, biological and health sciences, astronomy and physics, chemistry and biochemistry, mathematics, environmental science and engineering, or material science and engineering (other subjects possible) .

Each topic will feature four students delivering a 3-minute speech. Furthermore, participants will engage in a stimulating debate, discussing current issues, educational challenges, and youth engagement in their respective fields.

This is a call to young visionaries to lend their voices, share their ideas, and shape the future of science cooperation. Your participation could pave the way for meaningful change and enhanced youth involvement in global science policy.

Speakers will be responsible for any costs associated with their participation.
